Bengaluru's Kempegowda Airport Hit by Double Bomb Hoaxes
Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) experienced a turbulent week, receiving two separate email-based bomb threats. Both alarming messages were subsequently confirmed to be false alarms.
Timeline of Threats
The first threat reached the airport via email on June 13th. Just days later, on the night of June 16th, a second menacing email arrived. This communication explicitly referenced the "wrongful execution of terrorist Ajmal Kasab" and the "unlawful arrest of Savukku Shankar by IPS officer Pallan A. Arun." It further alleged that a bomb had been placed within the airport's toilet pipeline, ominously adding that if "Plan A" failed, "Plan B" was already in place.
Security Response and Ongoing Investigation
Following the receipt of each threat, airport security personnel and the bomb disposal unit promptly initiated a comprehensive search of the airport's entire premises. After meticulous inspections, no suspicious devices or materials were discovered, thereby confirming the nature of both threats as hoaxes.
The airport police have formally registered a case and are actively investigating to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for sending these emails. Initial suspicions suggest that the perpetrators may have employed a proxy internet connection to conceal their tracks. These incidents at KIA follow a series of similar bomb threats recently reported at various schools across Bengaluru, contributing to heightened public concern.
Such deliberate hoax threats present a significant challenge to public safety and unfortunately divert critical resources from vital security operations.
